It Comes At Night – Mini Review (Spoiler Free)

The directing was very haunting and kept me immersed in the world the filmmakers created. The lighting is to be praised above the direction, never giving the audience privileged viewing, always having us pay attention to see anything. The performances are really solid, especially to the end of the second act and the third. Everyone is great and really believable as people and not just as actors.

Dream sequences are often the death of horror films and here they are confusing. I’m not even entirely sure if they were dream sequences. It’s confusing. Is that good? Maybe. But just maybe. The aspect ratio changes a lot also and I tried to figure out what it meant but couldn’t and was just… meh. What comes at night? I still don’t know.

The score was brilliant and the idea of the film has potential and introduced an idea unexplored in any films I know which I think could make some great cinema. The film doesn’t use it however so…

It Comes At Night – 3.5/5
