Beauty and the Beast (2017) – Mini Review (Spoiler Free)

Just looking at the cast for this film, no matter what you know you’re gonna get a good show. Emma Watson shines as Belle as does Dan Stevens as Beast. They have great chemistry even if one of them is in a mo-cap suit the entire time. The songs are as good or even better than they’ve ever been, the opening number close to moving me to tears because of how good it was performed. The stand outs to me are Luke Evans and Josh Gadd who are amazingly funny together. You know a films doing something right when it’s aimed for kids and scares them as well as it did in my theatre. The film is dark and scary when it needs to be and doesn’t hold back.

They weren’t necessarily bad, but the additional songs put into the film did feel a little unnecessary to me. In or out of the film they would have made no difference but didn’t live up to the strength of the classics but that’s obvious. Just I would have preferred they weren’t in it. An odd last shot too. You would have thought it would have been Belle and the Beast right? No.

The issues which should be called issues brought up in the film are great and don’t shove it in your face either. The ratings difference now the film has been released to audiences and not just critics shows that sometimes a score means nothing. From a 6.2 on IMDB to a 7.7! Thank you society for being accepting and real people.

Beauty and the Beast (2017) – 4/5
