T2 Trainspotting – Mini Review (Spoiler Free)

Good

One good thing about T2 is the return of the characters we love. Renton, Begbie, Spud and Sick-Boy are all back and are all themselves. Ewan McGregor is back as our protagonist and is in good form. Begbie is his crazy and even more violent self. Sick-Boy returns with his witty charm along with an increasingly stupid Spud. Good performances of good actors for great characters.

Bad

As it is 20 years later our characters have changed and are a lot less interesting. The one thing I couldn’t help but think throughout my viewing was this film felt overall like season 7 of Skins; unnecessary. The style of the film was beautiful but to me didn’t suit what the film was, is and should be. The soundtrack didn’t live up to expectations but what can I say, the original’s was unbeatable. Wolf Alice was a standout though. The film kind of made me hate 2/4 of the characters also, one was just stupid and the other did things I don’t believe they would do. No drugs and the first disappointment of the year. If I had to sum up this film in one word; unnecessary.

Verdict

T2 Trainspotting – 3/5
