James McAvoy is kind of the most underrated actors working today. Everything he does is great so obviously he is the bright spark in this film. Especially when he played the character of Dennis. Totally believable and intimidating. In my opinion I just think it should’ve been Denis and only Denis.
Everything else was pretty poor. The execution was sloppy and very average for a Shyamalan film. Go back and watch Unbreakable *wink wink* and his direction is flawless. Here it’s just cheap and didn’t do anything for me. The 2 other girls trapped with Anya Taylor-Joy were just… no. I didn’t like them I didn’t care and always looked Michael Bayified (good even though they’ve been through some shit). Shyamalan is known for his twists, and as for this one… it’s poor. Could argue it isn’t even a twist.
A guy with 23 *wink wink* personalities sounds fascinating, and it could be if it’s potential wasn’t missed and if we saw all 23. The marketing lied to us! Odd uses of music/ score also. Kanye?! Why?!
Split – 2.5/5
It’s just a bad 10 Cloverfield Lane
